Modern hard disks may have huge storage capacities, but their limited writing speed is still a major drawback. The operating system itself can impact your computer's performance when it needs to write temporary data on the hard drive. Writing information in the computer's RAM is much faster, so it would make perfect sense to create a virtual storage space here. RamDisk Plus can be used to carry out this procedure without any effort. The application is capable of creating RAM disks in just a few seconds and its functionality is very easy to understand.

RamDisk Plus can be used on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 and it provides support for both 32 and 64-bit operating systems. The setup file is roughly 11 MB and it takes less than a minute to install the application's components. When the installation process is complete, you can run the application right away, without rebooting your computer or installing prerequisite tools.

The user interface displays RAM disks and mounted images on separate lists. A wizard will help you perform certain processes, like creating new RAM disks, mounting images and others. To create a RAM disk, you must specify its size, drive letter and file system and make a few other adjustments, according to your needs. Alternatively, you can replace the wizards with tabbed properties windows, by selecting an option in the general settings panel.

Created RAM disks can be saved and backed up. Before saving or backing up a RAM disk, you may tick an option to prevent the application from enforcing volume locking. You can also set RamDisk Plus to clear a disk's memory when you remove it or restore it. Once created, RAM disks will appear in Windows Explorer as regular partitions, which can be populated with files. RAM disks can have different file systems, such as UDF, FAT, FAT32, exFAT or NTFS.

Pros

RAM disks are created almost instantly and it takes only a few clicks to prepare the process. You can assign FAT, NTFS or other file systems to your RAM disks.

Cons

You may need a few minutes to figure out how to reload removed RAM disks. RamDisk Plus gives you the possibility of writing important information much faster, in your computer's RAM.
